Marguerite & Edward

About Marguerite and Edward
Like many modern love stories, we met online, having both recently moved to London, with Ed sparking up a conversation about True Detective. We survived long-distance while Ed lived in Spain and Liverpool, then moved in together and hopped from East London, to North and back East again - where we adopted our very doted-upon dog, Remi - before buying our first home together in Sydenham, South London.

Ed popped the question in 2020 on Drigg beach in the Lake District (close to where he was born), overlooking the Irish Sea, with Remi by our side. We celebrated by getting lost for several hours in the hills of nearby Dalegarth looking for a waterfall, followed by fish and chips with some bubbly.

We've waited out the pandemic in the hopes that as many of our friends and family as possible will be able to join us in beautiful West Cork in May 2024 for our wedding!

Welcome!

We can't wait to share our big day with you.

We hope this website contains all the key information you need about our wedding. Please don't hesitate to contact us if we can help with your planning in any way.

For anyone who wants to stay in the area a little longer, the next day we'll be heading to the Boston Bar in Bantry, Marguerite's hometown, a 30-minute drive from the wedding venue, where we hope you'll join us for an informal drink from 16.00.

Travel information

Public transport is very limited in West Cork, as it's a very rural part of the country. Hiring a car at Cork or Dublin airport is strongly recommended! For international guests, we suggest looking into car hire with Ryanair, irrespective of which airline you fly with, as we have often found them to be cheapest. Also note that rental car are by default manual transmission in Ireland - if you require an automatic, you need to specify this in advance.

Journey time to Inish Beg from Cork City is about 1 hr 30 mins or from Dublin about 4 hours. Once you get to Skibbereen, head towards Baltimore on the R595. After about 5 miles / 8 km you will see a sign on your right for Inish Beg. This lane to your right leads across a bridge to the estate. Follow the lane onto the island and through the pillars marked ‘Inish Beg Estate’. Following the driveway to the main house you will see signs to the car park, where there is plenty of space.

For our UK friends and family who fancy a road trip, there are multiple daily ferries with Stena Line and Irish Ferries from Holyhead (N Wales) to Dublin and Pembroke (S Wales) to Rosslare.

Unfortunately there are no railways in West Cork. If you fly into Dublin there is a train to Cork City, but you'll then need to carry on by bus or car.
There are several buses an hour from Cork Airport into Cork City, and then a number of buses travelling to West Cork daily. Check https://www.buseireann.ie/ and https://westcorkconnect.ie/ for timetables.
Guests arriving from Europe should be able to fly directly into Cork Airport (1 hr 30 mins drive from Inish Beg). Kerry Airport (2 hours away) is also an option, but has far fewer daily flights. Those travelling from further afar will either need to transfer in London (or another major city, e.g. Amsterdam), or arrive in Dublin Airport (4 hours away) or Shannon (3 hours). Beware of baggage restrictions if travelling with Ryanair!
Hiring a car (or driving from the UK) is strongly recommended for getting around West Cork. Car hire will most likely be cheapest at Cork Airport: all the usual providers (Hertz, Europcar, Budget etc.) have a presence here, and at this time of year it can be quite cheap, so do book ahead!

Accommodation

There is some accommodation on the island, which we have reserved for the wedding party and some of our international guests. There are a number of B&Bs and small hotels in the area and nearby in Baltimore and Skibbereen towns. The easiest way to check availability for these is by searching on Booking.com, Airbnb and Vrbo.

It may be easier for you to find accommodation in Bantry, about 30 minutes’ drive from the wedding venue, where there are two hotels, the Westlodge and the Maritime, plus further B&B options. If needed, we will arrange taxis or buses to transport anyone staying in Bantry to and from the wedding venue on the Saturday. Please also note that our post-wedding Sunday afternoon get-together will also take place in Bantry, so if you can join us for this, you may wish to stay in Bantry on Sunday night, too.

We recommend booking as soon as you can to ensure the best availability. If you are having any difficulties finding suitable accommodation or have any questions that we can help with, please just get in touch with us!

About the area

We understand that attending our wedding represents a significant commitment for our friends and family outside Ireland, but we hope our big day will afford many the chance to explore part of the world they might not otherwise get to visit! West Cork is a remote but beautiful part of Ireland with gorgeous landscapes and plenty to see and do.

We've created a short guide with our favourite things and top tips here to help you make the most of your trip! Please don’t hesitate to contact us for advice or information to assist with your travel planning.

Photo sharing

To avoid distractions, we ask that you please not take photos or videos during the ceremony. But otherwise, please snap away! We’d be delighted if you could share any photos or videos you take on our big day. To upload these, please visit this link here. Thank you!

Q&A

When is the RSVP deadline?
Please let us know by 12th April 2024 whether you'll be able to attend our wedding.

What should I wear?
Smart casual / cocktail attire - something smart, but not overly formal. Would advise wearing comfortable footwear and sticking with chunky heels, wedges or flats as the estate is not suitable for stilettos.

Are children welcome?
Although we love your little ones, we hope you will understand our decision to make the reception children-free to allow all wedding guests a night of relaxation. If you are travelling with children and will need a babysitter for the day, we can help with trying to arrange one, or possibly a group sit.

What will the weather be like?
It's Ireland, so, in a word, unpredictable. We're hoping for sunshine and warmth, but it won't be super hot, so shawls and jackets are recommended. The average daily high in May is about 15°C / 59°F. We will provide umbrellas on the day for the ceremony in the event of rainy weather.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
Likely to be a mix of both. There is an outdoor space for the ceremony that we are very much aiming for. However, if the weather is looking unsuitable ahead of the big day, we will move this indoors. The dinner reception (at the same venue as the ceremony) will be indoors.

Is it OK to take pictures or video?
To avoid distractions we'd rather people not take photos or videos during the ceremony, but otherwise please feel free!

What time should I arrive for the ceremony?
Please be at the ceremony for a 14.00 start.

Is there parking available at the wedding venue?
Yes, there is plenty of free parking. From the parking area, it's about a 10-minute walk to the ceremony location.

What's the best way to contact you if I have additional questions?
Through the contact form on this site below, by emailing magsregan@gmail.com (Marguerite) or ecr822@gmail.com (Edward), or texting +447463585153 (Marguerite) or +447748767426 (Edward).

Gift Registry

We appreciate that many friends and family have spent significantly to join us in West Cork for our wedding and so we do not expect wedding gifts. However, we have received some requests for a link to our wedding registry. In the case that anyone may still wish to give a gift, we would very much appreciate contributions to our honeymoon fund for our planned trip to South America, which we hope to take in 2025.
